Tennis
Hawks Landing Club offers seven meticulously-maintained Har-Tru courts bustling with activity year round. From children's clinics (ages-4 through 18) to private lessons to camps, Director of Tennis, Andy Lake, makes sure there is never a lull in activity. The tennis community has taken part in round robins, men's, ladies and junior leagues, special event nights at the club, such as Margarita Night, Valentine's Day Mixed Doubles, and various other tennis activities.
Court number one, with it's covered atrium, has presented professional-level tennis exhibitions sponsored by leading businesses in the county that offer the residents an opportunity to see high-level play right in their own backyard. And for the next year, Hawk's Landing owns bragging rights to 3 national titles , as their Director of Tennis is the 2003 National Hard Court Champion for the 30 years and older category. Andy Lake spent a week in Austin, Texas, taking on several nationally-ranked players, and has brought the coveted USTA Golden Ball home to Hawk's Landing. He also just won the 2003 National 30's Indoor Men's Singles Championship and was a 2003 National 30's Indoor - Men's Doubles Finalist. Congratulations Andy!
Our Head Tennis Professional, Gene Highfield, has an impressive background as well. Gene, a native of St. Croix, will be representing the US Virgin Island in Davis Cup play, just as he has in years past. Gene is a solid player, and has been welcomed wholeheartedly by the Hawks Landing community.
